More About this Product

In this fascinating video program, The Chuck Archard Group teaches viewers about various aspects of Latin music, from the specific instruments used to make the different types of rhythms heard.

In Part I, students become acquainted with the basics of the Latin beat, which is rooted in African rhythms. Mr. Archard and his band demonstrate polyrhythms and expose students to the basic musical instruments involved in music. Various techniques used in Latin music, including improvisation and "call and response", are illustrated.

In Part II, Mr. Archard builds upon what he taught in Part I by using all of the instruments to play some of the most popular kinds of Latin music: the son, rumba, mambo, cha cha cha, and the merengue. Viewers also become familiarized with some of the musicians who brought Latin music to America, from Israel "Cachao" Lopez to Chano Pozo. By combining history, live music, and fun to educate students about Latin music, Latin Music: Origins and Styles makes for an engaging and informative program.
