More About this Product
School used to be a place where students learned reading, writing, and arithmetic. With today's problems of drugs and violence, though, school has become a dangerous place. This program enhances guidance, life skills, and social studies units on values and self-esteem, leadership skills, goal-setting and drop-out prevention, and citizenship. Host Tom Selleck shows how some schools are taking an active role in helping kids find different ways to deal with bad situations. School-sponsored programs such as "Law Related Education" and "The Just Community" give students the chance to govern themselves by creating and enforcing their own rules. Other programs teach students self-confidence, role playing, conflict resolution, and discipline. These programs are successfully instilling a sense of responsibility and self-respect in students at risk.
