Up to 40,000 hate crimes are committed each year in America. Nearly 56% of hate-related murders are committed by offenders under the age of 21. Emotional and hard-hitting, this program explores the origins of hate through the eyes of today's teenagers as they come face to face with their own racism, ethnic bigotry, religious hatred, and sexual discrimination. The segment on religious intolerance is easily cross-referenced to World History studies of the Holocaust. The teens appearing in this program initially express an attitude that exclusion of other individuals and groups is a necessity, that racism isn't a problem in our society, and that their attitudes are both justifiable and unchangeable. Through interactive experiences with other teens who are different from themselves, and emotional encounters with people who have been victimized by hate, these students face the destructive reality of their prejudices. Providing examples of real solutions to the problem of hatred, the program encourages viewers to rethink issues of prejudice, and eliminate hatred from their lives. The program contains graphic language and discretion is advised.
